Secondary PGCE/MA Educational Innovation

Introduction

Warwick Institute of Education is a leading centre for research and development in secondary education, and staff have research interests in many aspects of secondary school teaching as well as school management and leadership. Our Secondary PGCE courses provide a strong focus on developing your understanding of learning, your classroom skills and your ability to teach your subject. The course will prepare you to use ICT in your teaching and to take part in the wider life of the school.

The Course

The full-time course begins in mid-September and lasts until late June. All secondary courses have three elements:

  • Subject studies look at all aspects of how to teach your subject, including planning, teaching, assessment and class management.
  • Core studies programmes focus on working in classrooms and schools and on the broader context of teaching today.
  • Professional placements provide opportunities for observation, practice and investigation in a wide variety of schools. University tutors and school-based mentors will work with you to ensure that you have access to the best possible advice.

What our trainees say about the course:

"Sometimes good news is simply recognising that the place you're in has meaning and the people who surround you make you feel human and real and alive in a community all searching for something worthwhile to communicate."

"Despite missing home, and all that goes with it, I've never doubted that I'm intuitively in the right place, and that the same sincere and empathetic ethos I sensed from the place when I came for interview has only been magnified on the course so far."
