Drama with English
Introduction
The PGCE Drama with English course at Warwick will introduce you to the skills and craft of drama and theatre making, together with an emphasis on the uses of drama as a vital curriculum tool for teaching and learning. During this course you will be actively encouraged to work in meaningful and diverse contexts, exploring related pedagogies and artistic traditions in order to structure learning for young people in ways which are inclusive, imaginative and progressive, putting drama at the heart of the curriculum.
The Course
The course is highly respected with a national reputation, consistently gaining the highest grades in Ofsted inspections. Our Drama with English trainees are sought after for teaching posts both within our partnership and in other areas of the country. We take account of the latest research and developments in school practice and we collaborate closely with our school subject mentors to ensure that your training is as upt to date and relevant as possible.
The course is designed to:
- help you become an efficient, effective, and enthusiastic teacher of drama, theatre, English literature and literacy.
- develop your ability to be a creative practitioner
- equip you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to be able to adapt to whatever changes occur in Drama and English teaching.
The course will prepare you to:
- develop pupils' knowledge and understanding of drama conventions and performance forms; and their skills in creating, performing and evaluating drama;
- develop pupils' knowledge and understanding of, interest in and enjoyment of literature (prose, poetry and plays);
- develop pupils' writing, reading, speaking and listening skills throughout the secondary school;
- develop stimulating classroom approaches for pupils across the whole ability range;
- consider the special relationship of English and drama, and drama in the context of the other Performing Arts.

Entry Requirements
We expect all of our PGCE Secondary Drama with English applicants to have achieved or be expected to achieve a 2:1 or higher honours degree from a UK university or an equivalent.
Successful applicants may have a degree in Drama, Theatre Studies and or Performing/Community Arts, or a joint or combined degrees in one of the above and other subjects. In addition to this we expect all applicants to have a good (Grade C or above) A Level in English Literature, or strong evidence of self study in this field, related work experience or some relevant degree modules. Applicants who have a degree background in other areas are encouraged to undertake further related study i.e. school based experience in drama and English before the start of the course. If you are enthusiastic about teaching Drama but do not currently have an appropriate degree background, you are encouraged to contact the course leader to discuss ways onto the course.
