Mathematics
Introduction
At Warwick we aim to give you a clear understanding of the principles and practice in teaching Mathematics in secondary schools today in order to develop excellence in classroom teaching.
Please read the WELCOME message from Jenni Ingram, Mathematics Subject Co-ordinator.
The Course
The course is essentially practical; it links school and University-based experiences in order to make the most of both.
We explore the many challenges which confront the mathematics teacher today, such as;
- Curriculum content and assessment
- Helping children of different abilities and attitudes
- Different methods of teaching and classroom organisation
You will learn how to help pupils engage in mathematical thinking and to see the subject as lively and interesting. You will be able to use and evaluate different approaches to teaching Mathematics. We will help you to be aware of current developments in the subject. As you reflect on your own learning you will be able to consider how to develop pupils' mathematical understanding.
What is special about this course?
The use of new technologies is a particular focus of the course. We also place special emphasis on improving your own subject knowledge. There are opportunities to work with pupils and hear from expert local teachers throughout the course.
