The Morris
Why are apparently sane adults dancing round a windmill in the dark at 5 a.m. on May 1st? This theme looks at one of the few traditional seasonal festivals in Britain – most holidays in Britain are religious (Christmas and Easter) or are less than a hundred years old (Bank Holidays). Morris dancing goes back to medieval times. Why Morris and why May 1st?
Grateful thanks to Celia Neill (on the right) of Hereburgh Morris for assistance with pictures and text. |
