About the British themes - Symbols of Citizenship
|
The British themes raise issues related to symbols of citizenship, especially aspects related to the Coventry area in the English Midlands. The themes are about: reconciliation, especially in international or group conflict; relations with nature, especially the controversy about the historic sport of hunting; equality at work, especially the ways in which traditional 'male' and 'female' jobs are changing; globalisation, and the issues raised when schools organise visits to distant countries; participation, linked to Lady Godiva, the symbol of Coventry; democracy in the classroom through circle time; respecting diversity - the Midlands have a wide range of ethnic communities; financial awareness, a particular interest of the Centre for Education & Industry at Warwick. There are also themes related to the national pavilions of other countries. There is a webrary - a library of educational websites from all the countries in the NEOTHEMI project.
