Much of the success of Britain from the 18th. century on was due to the development of a sound banking system which supported the development of trade and the Industrial Revolution. London remains one of the main financial centres of the world, and financial services are a major contributor to the British economy. However many adults in Britain lack financial awareness. This theme draws on work by the Centre for Education & Industry at Warwick on educating for financial awareness, supported by the National Westminster Bank.
