Welcome to the Warwick in Schools website!
WinS introduces students to teaching as a career by placing students in schools and providing training to prepare them for working with young people, as well as gaining 24 or 30 CATS by completing the Introduction to Secondary School Teaching module.
There are at least 80 places available next year (2012-13) on the WinS programme at Warwick which can be completed in Secondary Schools. We will be offering places for students interested in teaching Secondary Maths, Physics, and Chemistry and currently studying one of these subjects or a subject which would enable you to teach one of them eg: Engineering, Economics, MORSE, Statistics. All students wishing to have a place on WinS must also chose to take the Introduction to Secondary Teaching module (IE3E1 Maths, IE3E2 Physics, IE3E3 Chemistry)
WinS has 2 key aims:
-
to raise levels of attainment and aspiration of young people in schools
-
to contribute to the recruitment of able and committed students to Initial Teacher Training
Students gain a range of benefits from participating in WinS including:
- the opportunity to develop a range of transferable skills
- CATS through the Introduction to secondary teaching module (IE3E1,2 or3)
- an understanding of a broad range of education related careers
- a chance to discover what teaching is really like, whilst receiving support and guidance from experienced teachers.
- the opportunity to apply for a place on our Warwick in Africa Teaching Project
There will be an important meeting on Wednesday 24 October 2012 (time and location tbc) for ALL students who wish to have a place on WinS and take the module. Information about applying for CRB Clearance, school placements and training sessions will be available at this meeting.
A compulsory Placement Meeting will be on Wednesday 5th December 2012 (time and venue tbc) for all registered WinS students.
Placements and Training Sessions begin during the first week of the Spring term. Training sessions will run on Tuesdays or Wednesdays from 5.30pm - 7.30pm for Maths and on Wednesdays for Physics and Chemistry. To be eligible for a place on the WinS, you must be able to attend both the twilight training sessions and the half-day placements for eight weeks during the spring term, as well as the Module seminars for your subject.
