Transforming mental health services: how Warwick is helping

12 September 2016

Our medical school research has led to the three major reforms in mental health in the last two decades, including the development of early intervention in psychosis services, better understanding of why BME groups have poorer mental health, and improving services for young people in the transition to adulthood. We have much to be proud of. Attendees heard about the medical school's future plans. Led by Professor Swaran Singh, Warwick Medical School.

Working together: opportunities for universities and business

Coventry and Warwickshire is home to 35,000 businesses, including some of the world's most renowned organisations. Coventry and Warwickshire Local Enterprise Partnership is responsible for promoting economic growth and jobs in the sub-region. This session explored how universities are supporting companies to grow and flourish, and looked at what opportunities lie ahead.

Meditation

24 June 2016

Research from across the World has shown that people who meditate regularly are generally, calmer, remain focused, have more energy, sleep better, feel happier and more content. They are also more resilient and less prone to illness. The meditation session provided meditative practices to help colleagues achieve such outcomes. They include physical relaxation and breathing techniques, how to raise energy levels and methods for maintaining a balanced state of calm.

Mindfulness

23 June 2016

Mindfulness is an increasingly popular area of practical application and academic research. The benefits of regular practice are well documented and include improved clarity, resilience, recovery, creativity, problem-solving and communication amongst many others. As well as taking part in practical exercises, colleagues considered the theoretical and empirical landscape, and explore ways we can fit mindfulness into our everyday lives.

Reaching out to the region

Colleagues from across the University discussed how we can collaborate in the complex and rewarding work of engaging well with adults with no HE background, working-class and BME communities, and others who have no initial reason to trust, value or identify with a university like ours.

Coventry City of Culture 2021: building a joined up city

Colleagues learned more about how the University of Warwick and Coventry University are working closely with both the City Council and local residents to take a joined up approach to our City of Culture 2021 bid. This is a marvellous opportunity for engagement, research and impact that will make a real difference to the region, the city and Coventry's ambition to be a top ten UK city.

Effective complaints resolution

4 Nov 2015: Ramphal Building

Colleagues from the Academic Office led this session introducing the revised Student Complaints Resolution Procedure for the 2015/16 academic year, and the Delivery Assurance and Resolution Service which is the central point of contact when dealing with student complaints.
