An extra day's holiday! Find out how to take yours

In summer 2015 the Vice-Chancellor Nigel Thrift announced that all staff will be awarded an additional day of annual leave on Wednesday 23 December 2015 as a token of thanks to mark the end of the University’s 50th anniversary year.

Here's how to take your additional leave:

  • If you work in a department which is able to close on Wednesday 23 December, you will automatically get the day as additional leave (or a pro-rata part of the day if you work part-time).
  • If you have already booked Wednesday 23 December 2015 as annual leave, you will now have that leave "refunded".
  • If you work part-time and are not scheduled to work on 23 December 2015, you will be able to request to take the additional (pro-rata) leave at another time.
  • If you work in a department which will be open on Wednesday 23 December for operational reasons, you can take the additional leave at another time during the 2015/16 holiday year, as agreed with your manager ( pro-rata if you work part-time).

Still not sure how to claim your extra leave?

If you have any questions about how to take your additional leave, your line manager or departmental HR adviser will be able to help you.
