Behind the scenes: Heather Broadbent

Our Open Days are a chance for thousands of visitors to get a taste of what it's like to live and study at Warwick.

Find out what's involved from the people who help to make it all happen.

Undergraduate Programme Manager (Business Development)
Warwick Business School
Role for Open Days: WBS event organiser

My usual job involves...

I am responsible for recruitment onto the UG programmes in the business school. I manage the recruitment events, regular email updates and organise induction week as well as advising on entry requirements and working with the admissions team. I also manage our widening participation activities including the Big Deal Enterprise Challenge and support our brand new Foundation Year course. Finally, I’m responsible for promoting the benefits of intercalated years and work with EY on our joint Scholarship Scheme.

For Open Day...

I've worked with colleagues to create an informative and enjoyable day for our guests. I have prepared presentations about our courses, helped organise the logistics of the day, liaised with EY who are running an activity, and arranged for WBS student ambassadors to be available to chat to guests.

I really enjoy being involved with...

Meeting guests. I am passionate about higher education and about Warwick. I really enjoy being able to share this with prospective students and their parents and to provide them with the information they need in order to make an informed decision.

Open Days are special because...

There is generally a great atmosphere with the entire University’s community coming together to support these events. They are also extremely well organised by the University’s recruitment team in order to help guests make the most of their day.

If there was one thing I could change about Open Days it would be...

The availability of staff and students. Unfortunately many of these dates fall at busy times for academics or out of term time when many of our ambassadors have left. They are perfect dates for our customers which is the most important thing, but I’d like to have more academics and students in attendance.

Not everyone knows that...

Students who do the presentations at these events might not have had training and are often very nervous so a nice, friendly audience is welcomed.

My top tip for our visitors

Plan, question, enjoy!
