Car Parks 7 and 15 over 75% more energy-efficient

Following a project to upgrade the lighting, Car Park 7 is now around 75% more efficient, and Car Park 15 is approximately 79% more efficient in terms of energy use. That equates to an estimated annual saving of over £28,000 on the University's energy bills.

Given that the lights need to be on constantly for security reasons, we achieved this saving by fitting both car parks with LED lights. These use a lot less energy when they're switched on than the previous lamps did. On top of this, we installed sensors that dim the lights so that they use only 10% of the electricity they do when on full, based on whether anyone is using that area of the car park.

We've also upgraded Car Parks 1A, 8 and 12 using LED technology with controls.

Bob Wilson, Director of Estates said:

"The upgrades we've worked on in these car parks have resulted in an impressive amount of energy-saving. Even so, they're only a part of the total plan for cutting Warwick's carbon emissions by 2020 whilst maintaining an excellent service level. We will continue to improve the buildings and facilities on campus to cut down on our energy usage as part of the University Strategy".
