Estates Grounds Maintenance Team Recognised with Award

The hard work of the University's Estates team has been recognised with a regional award, as part of Britain in Bloom.

The judges were impressed with the continuing development of the landscape and exceptional grounds maintenance, which they felt was a credit to Warwick's gardeners and groundspeople.

The team, along with Registrar Jon Baldwin, were presented with the Quadron Heart of England in Bloom Grounds Maintenance Award outside University House. The University was also acknowledged by the judges for the role it played in Coventry being named Large City of the Year.

    The judges said:

"The landscape and grounds maintenance across the site is exceptional and a credit to the team of gardeners and grounds people that maintain it."

The judges based their decision on the many efforts the Estates Office have made to develop the Warwick campus, including:

    • The fields around campus that Estates gardeners planted with a mix of wild flower seeds
    • The hedges planted along Gibbet Hill road with the goal of absorbing some of the carbon emitted by passing traffic
    • The landscaping work around the Digital Laboratory, which they praised as "outstanding, with its perennial and wetland plantings that are designed to increase biodiversity", and
    • The recently improved area outside the Arts Centre and Coventry house, with its "immaculately kept lawns"

Bob Wilson, Director of Estates, said:

"It’s a great pleasure to have the hard work of our grounds staff recognised at a regional level. The Estates Office will continue to develop Warwick’s beautiful campus over the coming years."
