Warwick shortlisted for two Green Gown Awards

Warwick has made the shortlist for two Green Gown Awards, an annual celebration of Sustainability-related excellence in UK Universities. The award ceremony will take place this Thursday, 26 November.

Sustainability Professional Award

David Chapman, Sustainability Champion

Sustainability Champion David Chapman has made it through to the shortlist for the 2015 Sustainability Professional Award. David has worked hard with staff and students from many areas of the University to promote good sustainability practices and encourage more environmentally friendly behaviour.

He created and ran “Cut the Flow”, a water saving competition between student halls that saw an estimated saving of 40 tonnes of CO2 and £26,000 in water bills for the University. The judges were particularly impressed with how much David has achieved in the short space of time since he joined Warwick in July 2014.

Carbon Reduction Award

Energy Centre

Warwick’s work to create a new Energy Centre in the Cryfield area of campus has been recognised by the judges and placed on the short list for the Carbon Reduction Award. The Energy Centre opened in late 2014, bringing 2 new super-efficient Combined Heating and Power (CHP) plants to campus.

The Energy Centre project saw our campus heating network extended to over 19km, and aims to reduce Warwick’s carbon emissions by somewhere between 3,000 – 8,000 tonnes per year. The judges felt our entire sector could potentially learn from this project.
