    New Bus Services to Campus

This week sees the introduction of 20 new bus services to campus thanks to a new partnership between the University and local bus operator De Courcey Travel.

Following a review of transport at Warwick and underpinning the University's strategy to develop transport to and from the campus, the University is subsidising the start-up and development of new bus services, offering a sustainable alternative and better public transport to staff, students and visitors.

The new bus services will link the main campus directly to many areas of Coventry and a summary list of all the new bus services(PDF Document) is available. You may want to take a look at this first before consulting the table below.

A separate bus service will also link the University main campus to the Wellesbourne campus, as well as links to the railway station at Tile Hill.

The timetables and routes for the new bus services have been designed specifically to meet the requirements of staff and students at Warwick and include a new service operating hourly throughout the day between Coventry City Centre, Coventry Railway Station (main concourse) and main campus.

Details of the new bus services including timetables and routes can be viewed from the following table:

Please note that the timetables and routes will be subject to small changes during the first two/three weeks as the routes are improved and refined.

For the first three months (i.e. all of April, May and June) all staff and students at Warwick can travel free on the new bus services by presenting their University ID card to the driver when boarding the bus.

Thereafter, from 4 July all staff and students will be able to travel on these bus services at discounted fare rates set by the University and lower than the commercial alternatives. Staff will be able to purchase an annual travel pass from the University to travel on the new bus services, which they can opt to pay for through a salary deduction of equal amounts each month. Alternatively, staff and students will have the option to purchase single, return or 10-journey bus tickets at the discounted fare rate with cash as they travel. Details of the process to apply for an annual travel pass and the subsidised fare rates will be made available at a later date.

The new bus services will be registered as commercial services from 4 July 2011 when the general public can also travel on these services at the standard commercial fare rates.

Warwick's Transport Manager Graham Hine said:

"We have been planning and developing this scheme for two years and introducing these new bus services is great news for the staff and students at the University as well as the citizens of Coventry."

"They will link the main campus to many areas of Coventry for the first time, providing convenient and sustainable public transport for all to travel directly to and from the University campus and the Warwick Arts Centre."

Bob Wildman, general manager of Travel de Courcey, said:

"We have worked in close partnership with the University over the last two years to plan and develop this scheme."

"It is a huge step forward in providing staff and students at the University with the opportunity to use bus services that have never been available before."

"Ten low-emission vehicles will be operating on 20 new routes extending throughout Coventry and as far afield as Wellesbourne in Warwickshire for staff and students to access the whole of the University site."

"By offering new services that encompass the whole of the city and beyond which have been designed specifically for staff and students, we hope to encourage them to change their mode of transport from cars to buses."
