£1.5 million Sports Centre investment to create state of the art gym

The University is about to embark on a £1.5 million development of the Sports Centre that will create a state of the art gym.

The University has contracted with world class gym technology supplier TECHNOGYM to supply the latest equipment for cardio, resistance and strength training. TECHNOGYM also supply equipment to the National Football Centre at Burton, the Olympic Village and many other high profile locations.

SportsPreparatory work will start on 26 November 2012. To minimise disruption, the top floor of the Sports Centre including the gym will not close until after the current term ends.

  • The top floor will be closed from the week commencing 10 December to enable the new gym to be completed by the end of January.
  • From the week commencing 7 January, the activity room can be accessed from 4pm each day for sport.
  • The top floor – including our state of the art new gym - will reopen fully in early February 2013.

Phase 2 of the refurbishment on the ground floor of the Sports Centre will commence once the gym reopens. Phase 2 will see refurbishment and development of the reception area and an open plan office for the centre staff. This will include improved signage on the outside of the building.
