Olympic Torch Tour at Warwick

Olympic Torch

The Coca-Cola Olympic Torch Tour will be coming to the University of Warwick piazza on 19 October 2011, as part of a dedicated search to find inspirational students - Future Flames - to carry the Olympic Flame during the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay.

Nominations are sought for young people who use their passion in areas like sport and physical activity, music and dance, and community and the environment; to spread happiness in their local communities.

The tour’s open topped bus is coming to the piazza from 12-7pm on Wednesday 19 October, when anyone attending will be able to have their picture taken with the Olympic Torch. There will also be martial arts demonstrations, along with performances from sports clubs and societies. All are welcome.

Warwick is one of only 20 Students’ Unions to host the tour, after a highly competitive process. A larger nationwide search took place between June and September 2011 and this latest tour is dedicated to students and universities.Chris Sury, Warwick Students’ Union Sports Officer, commented:

We are delighted to welcome the Coca-Cola Olympic Torch Tour, so that the people of Coventry and Warwickshire celebrate all the amazing things our local young people are doing. We want everyone in Coventry and Warwickshire to nominate the inspirational young people they know and give them the chance to run with the Olympic Flame next summer.

Successful nominees will run one leg (approximately 300 metres) of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, which takes place between 19 May and 27 July 2012.
