Telephone scam targeting international students

December 2013

A number of UK universities have again reported that some of their students have been victims of telephone fraud, this time from someone claiming to be from the Home Office (previously UK Border Agency).

If you are contacted by someone claiming to be from the Home Office or UKBA instructing you to pay money and threatening deportation if you don’t pay, you should not pay any money or give any personal details to them.

Neither the Home Office nor UKBA would contact you in this manner. No agency, whether the Home Office, the Police, UKBA or any other organisation, will legitimately ask you to pay money in this way to avoid being deported.

If you receive a phone call like this, do not pay any money or give any personal details. Please contact the International Office on 024 7652 3706 or at int dot office at warwick dot ac dot uk
