Security Team get pedalling to secure our campus
Our security officers are getting out and about across campus on their new bicycles, reaching more areas of campus looking after people and property and responding to incidents.
The team are getting pedalling after being trained and equipped through Emergency Services training from cycling organisation BikeRight.
Mick Parkes, Security Supervisor, has championed the idea. He said:
By doing more of our patrols by bicycle we’ll be able to respond more quickly, especially at busy times on campus or when an incident is difficult to get to. Hopefully the team will also feel the health benefits as we get more active in our day to day roles!
By reducing their use of security vehicles, the team will also be helping to meet our environmental sustainability aims.
Mark Kennell, Head of Security Services, said:
The introduction of cycles for the security team is a positive step towards a greater flexibility with response times to incidents during a busy period on our roads. It also enables us to increase our visibility and become more accessible to all members of the campus community.
