Telephone scam targets international students

We have received a new report that a student has been contacted by someone claiming to be from UKBA and telling them to pay money or be deported.

No agency, whether the Home Office, the Police, UKBA or any other organisation, will legitimately ask you to pay money in this way to avoid being deported. If you receive a phonecall like this, do not pay any money or give any details. Please contact the International Office on 024 7652 3706 or at int dot office at warwick dot ac dot uk

We have received more reports of apparent attempts to defraud international students. These fraud attempts are now targeting Nigerian students in the UK as well as their family members at home in Nigeria.

A number of UK universities have reported some of their students have been victims of telephone fraud from someone claiming to be from the UK Border Agency (UKBA).

If you are contacted by the UKBA do not pay any money or give any details. The UKBA should not contact you in this manner.
