Warwick signs Memorandum of Understanding with the Indonesian Institute of Sciences

MoUWarwick’s President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nigel Thrift, recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) which will create a long-term collaboration partnership in priority research areas and professional education.

The Agreement provides a statement of intent to explore collaboration between the University and LIPI in a number of areas, including identifying priority research areas for Indonesia, which map onto Warwick’s own Global Research Priority (GRP) programme. The GRP programme enables researchers to work together across departmental and disciplinary boundaries to tackle global challenges such as Food, Energy, Materials and Sustainable Cities. To help facilitate this, Indonesia has been introduced as a priority country in the University’s International Partnerships Fund.

Professor Thrift said:

We are delighted to have signed an MOU with this highly regarded research institute. We look forward to working with LIPI on joint collaborative research projects that investigate key research areas for Indonesia which map onto our own global research priorities.”

MoU2LIPI was brought to the UK via the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in December 2013 to meet with senior officials in Government, coupled with visits to three universities. Clear opportunities for collaboration were identified on LIPI’s visit to Warwick, culminating in the signing of the MOU on 3 March in Jakarta.

Professor Thrift also signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) for two joint Chevening-Warwick scholarships.

The Chevening Programme makes awards to outstanding scholars with leadership potential from around the world to study postgraduate courses at universities in the UK. These two scholarships will enable talented students from Indonesia to join this prestigious community of Chevening scholars worldwide. The Warwick component of the joint awards will comprise full tuition fees for any Masters course at Warwick, subject to fulfilling all the normal entry requirements.
