Professor Jianfeng Feng: Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award

Congratulations to Professor Jianfeng Feng, from the Department of Computer Science, who has been awarded a Royal Society Wolfson Research Merit Award.

This top science accolade is given to only 26 academics in the UK and is awarded to 'respected scientists of outstanding achievement or potential.'

The Wolfson Research Merit Award is supported by the Royal Society, the UK's national academy of science. The scheme provides up to 5 years’ funding after which the award holder continues with a permanent post at the host university.

Jointly funded by the Wolfson Foundation and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), the scheme aims to provide universities with additional support to enable them to attract to this country or to retain respected scientists of outstanding achievement and potential.

Professor Feng will be working on a project called 'Bridging the gap between fMRI and Genome-wide data with applications in diseases' – which will see him integrate geno-, neuro-, and pheno-type data (MRI) to tackle brain diseases such as depression, epilepsy and Alzheimer’s disease, in close collaboration with hospitals worldwide.

Professor Czumaj, head of the Computer Science Department said: "We are delighted that Jianfeng’s important work has been highlighted by this important award."
