Stuart Elden wins AAG Meridian Book Award

12_the_birth_of_territory.jpgStuart Elden, Professor of Political Theory and Geography, has been awarded the 2013 AAG Meridian Book Award for Outstanding Scholarly Work in Geography for his book The Birth of Territory. This coveted distinction recognizes one outstanding book published each year that makes an unusually important contribution to advancing the science and art of geography.

The award follows previous successes including in 2010 his book Terror and Territory: The Spatial Extent of Sovereignty winning the Association of American Geographers Globe Book Award for Public Understanding of Geography and the Political Geography Speciality Group Julian Minghi Outstanding Research Award. The Birth of Territory (University of Chicago Press, 2013), is the product of several years of research including a Leverhulme major research fellowship.
