Dr Elizabeth Barry, of the English and Comparative Literary Studies Department, has had her head shaved to help raise money to fund breast cancer research. Liz’s visit to the hairdressers has taken place during Breast Cancer Awareness Month (1-31 October). It is hoped that not only will Liz raise money for breast cancer research but will also help towards publicising Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Sadly, Liz has personal reasons for wanting to play such an active part in fund raising for breast cancer research. One of her close friends has been diagnosed as having breast cancer and Liz, understandably, wants to do all she can to help. Liz’s friends and family had pledged to donate £320 if she had her hair shaved off. So far Liz’s fund raising activity has resulted in her receiving donations totalling £560. However, Liz would like to raise more money towards breast cancer research. All donations received by Liz will go to Breakthrough Breast Cancer which is the first dedicated breast cancer research centre in the UK. Money raised for this organisation will help fund ground-breaking research. If you would like to donate some money please send a cheque, made payable Elizabeth Barry, to: If you wish to send a cheque could you please write 'Bald Liz Campaign' on the back of the cheque. Alternatively, send your cheque to Liz here at the University via the English and Comparative Literary Studies Department. Liz has also set-up a website which has a series of photographs illustrating her visit to the hairdressers and also the latest information regarding the amount of money raised so far.
