School of Engineering Refurbishment

The School of Engineering recently completed a refurbishment of its foyer area, first floor balcony and teaching and research laboratories. The work started in August 2010.

The aim of the refurbishment work was to help strengthen the identity of the School of Engineering and to create an informal, relaxed space in which students can undertake design and group work and have the opportunity to interact informally with staff.

Professor Jonathan Seville, Dean of the School of Engineering said:

"The architects have done a terrific job, helping to make the environment more inviting. Our courses are strongly design-based with lots of group work, which demands flexible space for unstructured meetings between staff and students. At the same time, researchers need a place to develop ideas and talk to collaborators."

"My dream is to have new people in the building every day - whether it is potential students, collaborators from other parts of the University or industry partners."

Professor Seville hopes to see refurbishment through the rest of the building in the future, opening it up for more internal as well as external interactions.
