Sexual Health Awareness Week 2009

[c]

The Centre for the History of Medicine has announced the first ever Sexual Health Awareness Week (SHAW 2009), run by students for students. The week will take place from Monday 23 November to Friday 27 November (Week 8) and will feature many events relating to sexual health.

The week's events are loosely categorised under the headings of Academic, Arts and Activism. These categories are not restrictive, but are intended to encourage a broader understanding of the importance of sexual health through many forms - from studying the political treatment of sexual health in the past, to exploring, through drama, visual art and film, the individual significance of the AIDS virus, to campaigning for the wider distribution of protection.

Combining academic training with outreach work at a local school, SHAW 09 provides students with a chance to keep healthy (with testing sessions all day every day this week) whilst campaigning for access to sexual health provisions and HIV medicines for those who aren't as lucky.

The events featured in the week include a seminar with 80s AIDS activists, film showings, a musical, a fun run and many others. For more information on SHAW and a full list of events see www.warwick.ac.uk/go/shaw2009

Events are free, and all staff, students and members of the public are encouraged to attend, to show support for this week and ensure its continuation in the future.
