"Switch it Off" Campaign 2009

[c]
The University is participating in the Switch it Off Campaign 2009 from 9 – 13 November. The campaign aims to engage all sectors of society in switching off unwanted lights, electrical equipment, heating and other energy-intensive appliances. Departments across the University have already committed to making small changes to support the initiative, but Warwick will need your help to make a real difference. The University launched the Warwick Footprint campaign earlier this year to encourage individual members of staff and students to do their part to reduce Warwick’s carbon footprint. Sign up on the Warwick Footprint website and submit your pledges and ideas. Warwick Footprint has already helped the Energy and Environment Team to identify energy saving projects, which will be initiated as part of the Switch it Off campaign. The team will also undertake night monitoring across the University, turning off specific non-essential electrical items. The campaign culminates in the "Big Switch Off" between 4.30pm and 6.30pm on Friday 13 November, when E.On Central Networks will monitor electricity usage across the network to see how much has been saved on expected peak demand. With improved monitoring across the University, we too will be able to report back on specific reductions across the main campus. For further details about the University’s involvement in Switch it Off, please contact Environment Manager Nick Hillard or Energy Manager Joel Cardinal.
