Free, local, fun support for families with an overweight child: 40 families wanted for new study
NHS Coventry in conjunction with Warwick Medical School at the University of Warwick are looking for 40 families to take part in a research study to test a new family-based programme for children aged 7-11 who are overweight. The research is being funded by the National Institute for Health Research Health Technology Assessment (NIHR HTA) programme.
Families will be allocated to one of two groups, either to receive the new ‘Families for Health’ programme or Coventry’s ‘One Body One Life’ programme. All families will get free, local support in a fun and family friendly environment. The ‘Families for Health’ programme will run for 10 weeks at the Moat House Leisure Centre in Coventry from April to July 2012 on Saturday mornings. Sessions will explore ideas for supporting family relationships, as well as healthy food and activity. The groups will be run by specially trained facilitators who know about nutrition, physical activity and working with children and parents.
Disparities in Depression Care Project: ESRC/NIH Interview Study
The Division of Mental Health and Wellbeing at Warwick Medical School are inviting students and staff to take part in a study about communication between general practitioners and patients in medical consultations. The research seeks to investigate what actually happens between doctors and patients during consultations about feelings, emotions and depression
If you can spare 60 to 90 minutes to take part in an interview they would like to hear from you. Each participant will receive a cash payment for their participation.
Hiding in the Pub to Cutting the Cord: Fatherhood and childbirth
Nowadays, it is estimated that over 90 per cent of dads are there to witness the birth of their child, but in the 1950s, it was considered 'unmanly' for men to be there. Who was there when you were born? And who helped welcome your child into the world?
Dr Laura King at the Centre for the History of Medicine would like to hear from parents of all ages about their experience of childbirth. The aim of the research is to uncover why such a dramatic change has taken place; what implications this has had for fathers, mothers and babies, and the relationships between them; and the ways in which hospital policy and social attitudes have influenced people's behaviour.
Faculty-Student Sexual Relationships - Interview Respondents
Interview respondents are being sought for an ESRC funded doctoral research project being undertaken in Warwick Business School. The research seeks to investigate how students and academics make sense of their experiences and perceptions of consensual faculty-student sexual relationships within Higher Education institutions.
The researcher is particularly interested in speaking to academics and students who either have been or are currently involved in such relationships, but would also be interested in interviewing anyone who has not been directly involved who would like to share their perceptions of faculty-student romance.
Volunteers Needed for Research into Human Motion
Ceren Kaya, School of Engineering, is requesting volunteers to help with research into human motion. If you could spare 60 to 90 minutes to have your motion captured digitally in the Gait Lab, Ceren would like to hear from you. All types of people are welcome, but athletic people would be particularly useful.
If you are interested or would like any further information please contact Ceren Kaya for more details. You must be over 18 to volunteer.
