Morning breakout sessions: Warwick's place in the world

Our morning breakout sessions will focus on Warwick's impact and place in the world, locally, nationally and internationally. You can only go to one of these sessions (as they run concurrently). You can select your choice on the registration form.

The choices are:

1 League Tables: where are we, why does it matter? (this session is now fully booked)

League Tables, love them or loathe them, are here to stay - providing a good subject for news editors and a reference point for prospective students and their parents. They are used as a measure of a University’s national and international reputation and increasingly influence decisions by funding agencies and potential staff recruits. In this session, we will outline why league tables are considered an important indicator of a university's performance but also why they can be imperfect measures.

2 Our campus, are we really fit for the future? (this session is now fully booked)

As we strive to become a top 50 international university, this interactive session will focus on whether our existing campus and our future plans will provide the experience and environment expected of a world-class institution. You'll also have the opportunity to share your own thoughts and ideas on how we might develop the campus to make it fit for the future.

3 Warwick’s impact: Making a Difference (this session is now fully booked)

Find out more about the wider public impact of Warwick's research in this session which will look at how our academics and students engage with external audiences in the community, region and beyond. A range of innovative examples of how our work can enrich the lives of our key publics will be showcased and you'll have the chance to share your ideas on how we can more effectively engage different communities with our academic research.

4 Celebrate: Warwick’s 50th Anniversary (this session is now fully booked)

Warwick celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2015. What should we do to celebrate this landmark birthday? Come along to this interactive session to find out more about 2015’s key theme of ‘Imagining the Future’ and share your ideas on how you plan to celebrate.

5 Raising our game: Warwick’s place in influencing policy (this session is now fully booked)

Join this session for an hour of competitive policy brainstorming where you will plan the 'Warwick Revolution.' With real examples of how we've influenced the political landscape, attendees will plan rival scenarios that explore how we might have a great influence on national policy, Government decision-makers and the future of higher education in the UK. The session will be supported by the 'tools of political engagement' (drinks, canapés, business cards and spread sheets!)

6 We're all global now (this session is now fully booked)

What are the challenges and opportunities for widening and deepening our global engagement? What is the depth of our current international activity? Come along to this session to find out more about the contribution that over 8,000 students from 140 countries make to Warwick’s intellectual capital. They'll also be the chance to have a live discussion via video link with Warwick representatives in Beijing and Singapore.

7 Warwick's future size and shape (this session is now fully booked)

As the University approaches its 50th anniversary and seeks to refresh its strategy, what size and shape should Warwick be in the future? This strategic session will look at how the University might grow, sustain and change in order to maximise and develop our strengths, create and respond to strategic opportunity and meet future challenges in a way that reflects Warwick's culture and our founding principles.

8 A good place, a great place? What's it like to work at Warwick (this session is now fully booked)

Do you enjoy working at Warwick? How do you talk about the University to friends and family? This session will consider some of the background to studies of 'great places to work', building on the employee engagement agenda covered by one of our morning plenary speakers. We shall explore where we are now and how we all need to engage to ensure that Warwick is a great place to work - and how we will know when we get there!

9 Working with Warwick's key friends and partners (this session is now fully booked)

We all know how important it is that we work collaboratively with partners to produce the best internationally significant research, embed international engagement and experience in teaching and develop new and innovative approaches to how we work. Come along to this session to explore our approach to building these partnerships and how they may impact on the way we work.

10 Warwick's role as a business (A few places remaining)

Why does Warwick engage with business? How do we do it? Who are some of our key partners? Our Campus and Commercial Services Group (CCSG) already engages with business in a variety of ways, but what else could we be doing? This interactive session will update you on our current activity as well as giving you the chance to pitch your own ideas for a new campus business to a real live Dragon's den ….
