Cloud Computing

CLOUD COMPUTING

Lecture by Mark Skilton (MBA, 1992), Global Director of Capgemini

The tag 'cloud computing' is taken from both the cloud shapes that form conceptual technology diagrams and also refers to that other intangible phenomenon that exists in the ether, the internet. In its most basic form, cloud computing is the utilisation of the internet to run remote software systems. So how is cloud computing used in the world of business?

As businesses move towards increasingly virtual methods of communication, storage and marketing, managers may find themselves working within a new business model that challenges existing barriers. Collaboration and workloads can now exist in both the physical and virtual worlds, with each presenting different challenges and risks.

Mark Skilton is Global Director of Capgemini, a leading international company who aim to improve the performance and competitiveness of their clients through three disciplines of consultancy, technology and outsourcing. In this Warwick Business School lecture, Mark shares recent insights into the technology trends, risk and security barriers and issues and how companies are seeking ways to exploit this internet and "business cloud".

You can now listen to the lecture and watch the accompanying slides.
