Dr Lees, Teaching Fellow in French Studies provides some expert insight ahead of the French presidential elections,
"Opinion polls are not really giving us a clear picture of who is likely to emerge in the run-off. It seems likely that Macron is a safe bet, but then Melenchon's late surge could put him in the race with Le Pen.
"Le Pen's extreme rhetoric over the past week does not help her cause. If anything, she would be better focussing on helping young people and communities disadvantaged by globalisation rather than discussing immigration and the Holocaust in such brazen terms. Melenchon is now a real threat and she should tackle him head-on rather than reverting to the old Front National image."
