Africa @ Warwick
Research into the lasting impact of HIV and the changing face of democracy in Africa were just two of the issues discussed during the Africa @ Warwick event held in January. The event highlighted research themes and teaching programmes connecting the University of Warwick to Africa.
Africa @ Warwick was organised by the University’s Sub-Saharan African Research Network (SSARN) and the Institute of Advanced Study (IAS).
The diverse two-day programme outlined a sample of African-based research involving staff from the University of Warwick and colleagues located at Warwick’s strategic partner institutions across the globe, as well as highlighting funding opportunities and a range of teaching collaborations with Africa.
The speakers included Lenore Manderson from Monash University who talked about the Societal and Cultural Impacts of Environmental Change, Sustainability and Security, and Dan Branch from the University of Warwick’s Department of History who will talked about corruption and Kenya’s crisis of governance.
A series of 13 podcasts were recorded over the two days covering the following topics:
- Youth and Children
- Governance
- Food and the Environment
