Warwick at the 2010 MIT Energy Conference

F3 WorldFirst Chocolate Powered Racing CarThe University of Warwick will showcase the breadth of its research and teaching in the area of sustainable energy and energy efficiency at the prestigious 2010 MIT Energy Conference held in Boston from 5th to 6th March 2010.

Warwick, the only UK University to attend the conference, will exhibit WMG's F3 WorldFirst Chocolate Powered Racing Car and will be represented by WMG's Dr Kerry Kirwan and Dr Steve Maggs, who will be looking to build collaborations with MIT and Harvard around sustainable materials.

The Conference is an annual student-run conference that brings together leaders in the fields of technology, policy, industry, and finance to develop solutions for the world’s most pressing energy challenges.

Environmental and security concerns have created an opportunity for fundamental change in the way the world produces and consumes energy. The MIT Energy Conference will explore these opportunities and showcase promising technology and policy pathways that have the potential to make a significant impact on energy solutions across the global energy landscape.

Various other staff from the University of Warwick will be attending the conference including:

    • David Elmes (Warwick Business School), will be raising the profile of the unique Warwick Global Energy MBA
    • Professor Tim Jones (Chemistry), will be attending talks around solar energy policy
    • Professor Phil Mawby (Engineering), will be examining international trends in power-electronics
    • Dr Mike Ahearne (Science City Energy Efficiency project, Engineering), will be looking to build collaborative opportunities for the Energy Efficiency strand of Birmingham Science City in addition to a number of high-level meetings with National Grid

The Conference will feature several workshops, the annual Conference Showcase and Conference panels will be held on a wide range of topics. The desired outcome of the fifth annual MIT Energy Conference is to build a joint vision of the future that will help remove roadblocks to implementation, develop collaborative solutions, and bring the energy community closer together.
