Tableaux de la Révolution- part 2

10:53, Tue 22 Jan 2013

Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild (1839-1898) filled his home at Waddesdon Manor, Buckinghamshire, with a sizable collection of eighteenth century French art and associated ephemera from the Revolution in 1789 through to the Second French Revolution of 1830. Through a collaboration between the University of Warwick, Queen Mary University of London and Waddesdon manor, these images have been digitised, catalogued and released online via Waddesdon's website for the first time. The prints portrayed in this five part series portray key moments in France's revolutionary period, including the storming of the Bastille and the executions of Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette, culminating around the time of Napoleon. Contributions from Dr Kate Astbury, Dr Claire Trévien and Mr Paul Davidson For more videos, features and insights into research at the University of Warwick, visit http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/knowledge/
