Warwick academic awarded Sir Ernest Barker Prize
University of Warwick academic Kai Spiekermann has been awarded the Political Studies Association’s Sir Ernest Barker Prize for Political Theory.
Assistant Professor in the Department of Philosophy, Dr Spiekermann received the prize for his thesis ‘Norms and Games: Realistic Moral Theory and the Dynamic Analysis of Cooperation’.
Dr Spiekermann will travel to Manchester on Wednesday 8 April to collect his prize at the PSA Annual Conference dinner.
Judges for the 2008 prize praised Dr Spiekermann’s thesis as a highly intelligent and striking original piece of work. His thesis brings together game theory, ethics, political philosophy, experimental psychology, computer simulation and real-life politics.
Dr Spiekermann said he was delighted to win the award. He added: “"I was thrilled and completely surprised to win the prize. Research on social norms is crucial in times that require us to change our ways, in order to meet environmental and social challenges. I hope my research can make a contribution."
