Sub-atomic particles and the structure of the Universe will soon be hot topics for school children in Coventry and Warwickshire. 

The University of Warwick is receiving a donation from the Ogden Trust to fund a physics teaching fellow position for local schools. 

The search has now begun for the teaching fellow, who will help to deliver advanced level physics to pupils and give them the opportunity to visit the University and set up their own experiments.

The project capitalises on the world-leading expertise and facilities in the Physics Department at the University. 

Dr Neil Wilson from the University’s Physics Department has helped to set up the project. He said: “This is a really exciting opportunity and we are delighted to be able to work with our local schools in this way. The University of Warwick has had strong links with The Ogden Trust, for several years. The Trust has supported selected undergraduate students through their degrees via its Undergraduate Science Scholarships.” 

Sir Peter Ogden, who was awarded an Honorary Degree at this summer’s University of Warwick Graduation, founded Computacentre in 1981. When the company went public in 1998, he placed the entire proceeds of his shareholding into The Ogden Charitable Trust.
