Excellence in Research Reaps Funding Success for Warwick
The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE)
announced today (10 March 2005) that the University of Warwick is
to receive an 8.5% increase in funding - one of the highest
increases for a Midland's University in HEFCE grant funding this
year.
Overall the University's grant from HEFCE increased 8.5% to a total
just short of £64 million. However the largest single
increase within that total figure for Warwick came in the amount of
money received for research which rose from £22.6 million in
2004 to £27.7 million in 2005.
This increase is in recognition by HEFCE of Warwick's overall
research excellence. This latest HEFCE grant round has particularly
rewarded Universities with academic departments that received the
highest possible ratings (5 or 5*) in the Government's last
Research Assessment Exercise. Almost every academic department at
The University of Warwick is rated at 5 or 5*.
