Excellence in Research Reaps Funding Success for Warwick

The Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) announced today (10 March 2005) that the University of Warwick is to receive an 8.5% increase in funding - one of the highest increases for a Midland's University in HEFCE grant funding this year.

Overall the University's grant from HEFCE increased 8.5% to a total just short of £64 million. However the largest single increase within that total figure for Warwick came in the amount of money received for research which rose from £22.6 million in 2004 to £27.7 million in 2005.

This increase is in recognition by HEFCE of Warwick's overall research excellence. This latest HEFCE grant round has particularly rewarded Universities with academic departments that received the highest possible ratings (5 or 5*) in the Government's last Research Assessment Exercise. Almost every academic department at The University of Warwick is rated at 5 or 5*.
