Brian Woods-Scawen: From Research Student to University of Warwick Treasurer
From 1968-71 he was a research student in
political philosophy at the University of Warwick but today Brian
Woods-Scawen has been appointed as University's Honorary Treasurer
by the University's Council at its meeting on Thursday 5th
October
Brian Woods-Scawen has held a range of senior non executive appointments in the both private and public sectors and his opinion is valued both in the business sector and governance of the West Midlands region, and in Westminister.
He is a Chartered Accountant and was formerly Chairman of PricewaterhouseCoopers and a member of the PricewaterhouseCoopers Global Board.
Amongst his current appointments, Brian is Chairman of West Bromwich Building Society, a non executive director of the Department of Trade and Industry and Chairman of Coventry Solihull and Warwickshire Partnership. Just last month he was appointed to the Board of the Government Office of the West Midlands as an independent Non-Executive Board member with particular responsibility for corporate Governance. He has been appointed by the Prime Minister as the private sector member of the Committee on Standards in Public Life and advises the Department of Culture Media and Sport on cultural strategy.
He holds a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute of Chartered Accountants and was nominated as Most Inspiring Business Leader in the Midlands in 2004. He is a Deputy Lieutenant for the West Midlands.
At Warwick, Brian has been a member of the University of Warwick's Council since 2001. He has also served as Chairman of the University's Audit Committee, Chairman of the Arts Faculty Advisory Board and a member of the Board of Warwick Arts Centre.
Brian Woods-Scawen said
"I have never lost touch with the University of Warwick. On graduating from it 1971 I have watched it rise to become one the UK's leading research universities and a significant asset to reputation of the West Midlands. During that time I have been able to serve the University and its Arts Centre in a number of governance roles and I am delighted that the University has now asked me to take on the role of University Honorary Treasurer."
