Australian Science Minister Visits Warwick - key partner of Australia’s Monash University

Kim Carr the Australian Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research is visiting the University of Warwick campus on Thursday 15th October.

He will meet Warwick’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Nigel Thrift, Professor Lord Kumar Bhattacharyya, Director, Warwick Manufacturing Group (WMG), and tour the University’s Centre for Nuclear Magnetic Resonance with Professor Mark Smith, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Research.

The University of Warwick has just signed a strategic alliance agreement with Australia’s Monash University. The agreement formalises a partnership with Monash which has been developed over the past year and is being supported by a joint funding initiative to help academics to develop research and teaching projects which harness the combined strengths of both universities.

Warwick’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Nigel Thrift said: "Warwick and Monash have much in common. We both first opened our doors to undergraduate students in the 1960s and since then we have both developed to become leading research universities. This new partnership will enhance our already world-class research and allow us to share the benefits of innovative teaching projects."

Conversations between Warwick and Monash academics have already taken place in the areas of healthcare innovation, advanced materials, green chemistry, history and migration and diasporas and it is hoped that further areas of potential collaborative interest will emerge as the partnership develops.
