British Science Week is three days longer than a normal week (13-22nd March) and Coventry school children will be making use of the 3 extra days in that “week” with a special 3D printing and engineering event led by the University of Warwick at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in Coventry on Saturday 21st of March from 10am to 4pm.

Working with Diane Burton, (Project Officer for the CAD and 3D Printing Project at WMG at the University of Warwick), the young people from Stoke Park and Cardinal Wiseman schools will be exhibiting their work using the technology of 3D printing. There will also be an opportunity for visitors to try the technology for themselves.

Alongside those 3D printed products, the University of Warwick’s Engineering students will be exhibiting a human powered submarine created for an international student submarine competition and the latest version of a rescue robot designed for an international student competition to create a robot to search disaster scenes and locate survivors

Margaret Low Principal Teaching Fellow at WMG said:

“If you’ve heard about 3D printing, want to know more and see some 3D printers in action, come along and visit us at the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum in Coventry. There will be the opportunity to try your hand at 3D design, see 3D printers working and explore other engineering activities. We will be displaying lots of 3D printed products created by Coventry school children aged 11 to 13, and a range of 3D printing applications in research and industry. “

The School pupils will also be attending a special event at WMG on the University of Warwick campus on 25^th March at 2pm when University of Warwick Pro-Vice –Chancellor Professor Christina Hughes will present certificates to the students for their work using 3D printing.

Professor Hughes said: “I am delighted that the University of Warwick, and in particular WMG, has been able to help local schools access this technology and add to the skills and technical knowledge of our young people”
