University Awards Chancellor’s Medal to Former Coventry Teacher

The University of Warwick is to award a Chancellor’s medal to a former Coventry Teacher on the occasion on the installation of its new Chancellor, CBI Director-General Richard Lambert, on the evening of Wednesday 10th December.

The medal will be awarded to Juliet Amery who was a student at the Coventry College of Education from 1955–1957. She became a teacher in Coventry, eventually becoming Head of Sixth Form at Foxford School. Juliet never lost her links with ‘Westwood’ and in 1987 was Secretary to the Westwood Former Students’ Association, when she was invited to get involved in the steering committee planning the first alumni event for Warwick: the University’s 21st birthday celebrations. The efforts culminated in the first alumni campus event, attended by over 3000 alumni and friends. Shortly after, the Warwick Graduates’ Association was formed. Juliet Amery was integrally involved with Warwick Graduates’ Association from the outset and has been an extremely active volunteer in the association ever since.

Appropriately, Juliet is herself a Benefactor of Warwick Graduates’ Association – she has long been a Benefactor to its Annual Fund and in 2000 created the Florence Silver Scholarship – an award which provides funds for a choral scholar here at Warwick. In addition, Juliet is a member of the sub-committee of the WGA Opportunity Fund which distributes funds to imaginative student initiatives.

Also receiving a Chancellor’s medal that evening will be the University of Warwick’s former Deputy Registrar Mr Jim Rushton – find out more in a separate press release.

There will be a a photo opportunity with Juliet and the Chancellor at 6.15pm on Wednesday 10th December 2008 in the National Grid Room Warwick Arts Centre. Photographers should ask for Dr Roberta Warman.
