Dr Adrian Chaplin, from the University of Warwick, is the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Harrison-Meldola Memorial Prize winner for 2015.

Dr Chaplin, from New Zealand, is a Royal Society University Research Fellow. The prize recognises the most meritorious and promising original investigations in chemistry and published results of those investigations.

His team’s research at the University of Warwick is based on synthetic organometallic chemistry of the late transition metals relevant to small molecule activation and catalysis.

Dr Chaplin previously spent four years as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford where he also held the R.J.P Williams Junior Research Fellowship in Chemistry at Wadham College.

He said: “I am honoured to receive this prestigious award and pleased to see the continued recognition of fundamental ‘bottom-up’ research in the chemical sciences. I look forward to using this opportunity to speak about our recent results at universities around the UK.”

Award/prize winners are evaluated for the originality and impact of their research, as well as the quality of the results which can be shown in publications, patents, or even software. The awards also recognise the importance of teamwork across the chemical sciences, and the abilities of individuals to develop successful collaborations.
