The University of Warwick is confirmed as the Midlands’ leading University by a new league table released today.

Rated sixth in England, and in the top ten for the UK, Warwick’s world-renowned Business School comes second only to Oxford, while its school of American Studies come top of its category.

The Guardian newspaper released its league table survey today (1 May 2007). 

University spokesperson Richard Fern said: “Once again this is great news for Warwick and the Midlands.  Leading pack placings in subjects such as Biosciences, Business, Chemistry, American Studies, Classics, History, English, Law, Politics, Philosophy, Psychology and Sociology confirm Warwick as one of the country’s best universities.

“UK universities have tremendous cache in the world-wide education market place, and Warwick’s name is a key part of that winning global brand.  Even without full participation in the National Student Survey we have done incredibly well.”

“This is good news for the local and regional economy – a recent independent survey revealed that each year, the University, its staff, and students spend around £150 million in the local authority areas of Coventry and Warwick and £189 million in the West Midlands.”

The Guardian survey adds: “Consistently rated among the best universities in the country, Warwick is something of a leader in the academic field, with innovative approaches to community involvement and widening participation.”
