Warwick commits half a million pounds to fund 100 Masters scholarships

Recognising that access to Masters courses is a significant issue for undergraduates, the University of Warwick has set aside an additional £500,000 to fund 100 scholarships for Taught Masters students in 2016-17. In just a few days since they were announced the University has already received 93 applications for the scholarships.

The £5,000 scholarships will be paid as a contribution towards tuition fees and applications are open till Thursday 21st July.

Georgia Rose ParrisWarwick Masters students Georgia Rose Parris received a Warwick Masters scholarship last year which enabled her to take up a place studying for a Masters in English Literature. She said:

“I applied for, and was offered, a Warwick Taught Masters Scholarship last year. It was an amazing offer that allowed me to easily accept my place at Warwick.

The decision to embark on postgraduate study isn’t something anyone decides on a whim, especially if, like myself, you will be a postgraduate student with responsibilities such as a mortgage. The fact that I am a postgraduate student with a mortgage affected every decision I made whilst applying to universities; I couldn’t move, so I would need a university close enough to commute twice or three times a week, I would have to get a funded place and lastly, I would need a flexible part time job.

I would absolutely encourage other prospective Masters students who face similar challenges to seize this opportunity. I will also urge them to follow up on the fact that the government have also announced that they intend to offer loans to students hoping to begin a Postgraduate Masters for the 2016/17."

The new Warwick Scholarships are open to Home/EU students who graduated in 14/15 or 15/16 and who were in receipt of maintenance grant support, a special support grant support, or Disabled Students Allowance whilst studying. Full details can be found at:
