University of Warwick students take 8 productions to Edinburgh Festival Fringe

Fat Git TheatreThe Fringe is the world’s largest arts festival, taking place every August in Scotland’s capital. With eight productions being showcased by groups made up of both current students and Warwick alumni, this is the largest representation the University has ever seen on Edinburgh’s stages.

Fellswoop Theatre will be performing “Belleville Rendez-Vous”, a stage adaptation of Sylvain Chomet’s animation film. The company, made up of recent Warwick graduates, has received wide critical acclaim over the last three years. Their adaptation of “Belleville Rendez-Vous” has been given strong support by Chomet himself, who has in fact designed the posters for the production at Edinburgh.

Dumbshow Theatre, another troupe of Warwick graduates, are putting on three shows at the Fringe. The returning hit “Clockheart Boy” will be accompanied by the premieres of “Roar” and “Oedipus: A Love Story”.

In addition, science-inspired thespians Curious Detective, who emerged from Warwick in 2008, bring creativity to their curiosity in “Your Last Breath”.

One of the University’s drama societies will also be performing at the festival. Freshblood Theatre, who produce and perform exclusively student-written material, will be staging “Fool’s Gold”, whilst Fat Git Theatre, made up from both society members and recent graduates, will bring to Edinburgh their playfully absurd take on Gogol’s short story “The Nose”.

Meanwhile, three students of Theatre and Performance Studies at Warwick, who make up SplitImage, are performing their very own “Frozen Stills”, the touching story of an iconic photographer forced to relive his own life through snapshots of his memory.

Emma-Jane Denly, President of the Warwick University Drama Society is proud of Warwick’s representation at the event: “It's so brilliant when ideas and groups of like-minded people develop after university into acclaimed and successful theatre and theatre-makers - evidently Warwick has a rich wealth of talent.”
