The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) funds postgraduate research degrees (and taught Master's courses as preparation for research or for a professional career) for UK and EU students seeking to study in the Arts and Humanities. Under the current arrangements, the AHRC allocates the University of Warwick a certain number of Master's and Doctoral Awards for specific subject areas, and we are responsible for selecting the students to be funded by these awards. AHRC Doctoral Awards:The AHRC Doctoral Awards competition has now CLOSED for 2012-13 entry. The University, based on its block grant allocation, expects to make AHRC Doctoral Awards for 2012-13 in the following subject areas (please note our allocation is subject to confirmation from AHRC):
AHRC MASTER'S Awards:The AHRC Masters Awards Competition for 2012-13 entry is open The University, expects to make the following Research Preparation Master's awards for 2012-13:
EligibilityApplications are welcomed from: Applicants for a Master's or PhD (or equivalent doctoral degree) at the University of Warwick. Applicants must be UK citizens or EU citizens who have resided in the UK for the past three years (other than for the purpose of full time education) in order to receive a full award covering both the payment of academic fees and a maintenance stipend. EU citizens who have not resided in the UK for the past three years are eligible for a fees-only award. In 2011-12 the doctoral award comprised: £3,900 for fees (the full cost) and £13,590 for maintenance. In 2011-12 the Research Preparation Master's award comprised: £6,080 for fees (the full cost) and £9490 for maintenance. The Professional Preparation Master's award paid full fees plus £8845 for maintenance. These maintenance stipend is currently frozen by AHRC in line with the government's freeze on public sector pay. Please find the guidelines for eligibility for AHRC awards here. Applications are open to students from the subjects indicated above. These allocations are determined by the AHRC and we cannot transfer funds between subject areas. How to applyIMPORTANT: Please note different application processes operate for applications for Doctoral and Master's awards. -for an ahrc doctoral awardThe AHRC Doctoral Awards competition has now CLOSED for 2012-13 entry. Doctoral awards will be awarded through a combined Chancellor's/Chancellor's International Scholarship/AHRC Doctoral Awards competition. Applicants will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible. Find out more about this competition and how to apply here. The highest-ranked eligible candidates in subjects with AHRC Doctoral Awards allocated (as specified above) will be nominated for an AHRC, rather than Chancellor's scholarship. Please note this competition is the only opportunity to apply for an AHRC doctoral award, and you must apply within the open period . There is one application form required: Applications for the combined competition are made through a single combined application form for postgraduate admission and for the scholarships. This form is only available within the specified open period. You should also check the AHRC Guide to Student Eligibility.
-for an AHRC Master's AwardFor 2012/13 all applications for AHRC Masters will be handled via an amalgamated postgraduate taught competition to include AHRC Masters Awards, International Office, International Office Africa and Santander. You must have applied for admission and hold an offer of a place to the University of Warwick for a Master's course in order to be nominated for an AHRC Master's Award. An offer of a place here does not guarantee funding. To be eligible to be considered for an AHRC Masters Award you must hold an offer of admission from the University by the 30th of March latest. Academic departments within the University will identify candidates that they wish to nominate for a scholarship based on course application forms. The department will lead on completing a form to send to the Graduate Office and may be in contact to let you know that you have been nominated and ask candidates to provide further information to support the nomination. Please refer to the AHRC Guide to Student Eligibility before applying. Scoring Guidelines for Masters Award Applications nominated for a scholarship as part of the amaolgamated postgraduate taught competiton will be scored against the following criteria: Applications are scored on a 1 to 5 scale, 5 being the best possible mark. AHRC Research Training Support GrantCurrent AHRC-funded doctoral students at the University of Warwick can apply for funds from the AHRC Research Training Support Grant to support study visits and conference attendance.
