Department of French Studies: PhD Studentship
The Department of French Studies at the University of Warwick is delighted to announce that it has 3 fully-funded PhD studentships (academic fees at home/Euro rates + maintenance) to award to outstanding candidates commencing full-time doctoral study in October 2012. One of these is an AHRC doctoral award; the other two are departmental awards. In addition, candidates applying for doctoral study in the Department will be eligible, in open competition with candidates from other departments in the Arts Faculty, for one of the three prestigious Wolfson Foundation Scholarships recently awarded to the University in the areas of History, Literature and Languages. They will also be considered for the University-wide Chancellor's scholarship competition which awards 45 scholarships each year. The competitions are combined; applicants only apply once and will be considered for all awards for which they are eligible. Department of German: Godfrey Carr Fund for Excellence in Warwick German
The Godfrey Carr Fund for Excellence in Warwick German, established in 2005 with generous support from ALDI and departmental alumni, currently provides financial support up to a maximum of £1000 to offset the cost of postgraduate fees.
To be eligible for funding from the Godfrey Carr Fund you must also be able to demonstrate that you have applied - or will be applying - to any other external sources of funding for which you are eligible. Please consult the Director of Graduate Studies, Dr Christine Achinger.
Department of History: PhD Studentship in History of Medicine in the Modern Period
The Centre for the History of Medicine is delighted to advertise a Home/EU fees only equivalent Doctoral Studentship in the field of the History of Medicine in the Modern period.
The successful candidate will also receive a bursary of £3000 (£1000 per annum in each of the first 3 years for full-time students or pro rata for part-time students), to defray research expenses. After a successful MPhil to PhD upgrade the post holder will be offered the opportunity for paid teaching of undergraduate seminars within the Department of History. Other opportunities for paid research work may become available depending on the successful candidate’s interests.

The Callum MacDonald Memorial Bursary is intended to support postgraduate students in their research. It may be used either to fund a specific research project or to cover the costs of presenting a paper at a conference. Students may apply for up to £500.00.

PhD Scholarship, History of Art
The Department of History of Art at the University of Warwick is able to offer a studentship for PhD study for entry in 2012/13. The award will cover a maximum of three years' tuition fees at the home/EU rate (currently £3,900 per annum) and an annual maintenance stipend of £10,000. The successful recipient will be required to undertake a maximum of six hours of teaching across the academic year during their second and third years of study. Overseas students will also be considered for the studentship, but their fees will be subsidised at the prevailing rate for home / EU students.

Centre for Cultural Policy Studies Doctoral Scholarship
The Centre for Cultural Policy Studies is offering a new Doctoral Scholarship for entry in 2012-13. The scholarship scheme is open to both EU and Overseas candidates.
The scholarship will be equivalent in value to the total course fee payable by a UK/EU student or half the total course fee payable by an overseas student.
The scholarship will be annually renewable for a three-year period, subject to satisfactory progress.
To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must: (a) have received an unconditional offer for entry on to CCPS MPhil/PhD programme by January 31st 2012 and (b) have not been awarded a scholarship by any other awarding body that is equivalent to or in excess of the value of the CCPS Scholarship.
The research theme for the doctoral scholarship is determined each year by the doctoral scholarship committee. This year priority will be given to candidates putting forward proposals for research in the general area of culture and international relations. This includes, though is not restricted to, culture and conflict, culture and war, culture and diplomacy, culture and development, culture and tourism, culture and nationalism, culture and religion.
All candidates who meet the criteria above will automatically be considered for the CCPS scholarship, on the basis of the information submitted to the University as part of their application and in the light of the recommendation from the candidate’s proposed supervisor.
The scholarship will be awarded on the recommendation of the CCPS Doctoral Scholarship Committee (DSC), on the basis of the following factors: (a) The candidate’s academic track record; (b) The quality of the candidate’s application for entry to the University; (c) Letter of recommendation from the candidate’s proposed supervisor; (d) relevance to the scholarship's designated priority area.
The successful candidate will be notified before the end of February 2012.

2. Potential to make a positive contribution to the Centre’s postgraduate community and to student learning on the course, based on professional, academic and / or cultural background;
3. The applicant must have been offered a place on one of the Centre’s three MA programme by 1st May 2012 and must be a British citizen and resident in the UK.
Applicants will be shortlisted initially by the Centre Scholarship Committee against these criteria on the basis of their standard application forms.
Shortlisted applicants will then be contacted by 11th May and invited to write a short statement outlining their suitability to the chosen MA programme and explaining how they meet the selection criteria.
The successful applicants will be notified of their award around 31st May 2012. Successful applicants will be asked to confirm acceptance of the bursary within two weeks of receiving notice of their award.

We are particularly keen to encourage MA applicants from the following regions: North America and the Caribbean, Latin America, the Middle East, Africa, Russia and Eastern Europe.
The Centre offers one part-fee bursary of £5,000 per MA programme (MA in International Cultural Policy and Management, MA in Creative and Media Enterprises and MA in Global Media and Communication) to successful applicants from these regions. Department of English and Comparative Literary Studies: Arthurian Postgraduate Awards
The Eugene Vinaver Trust, in association with the British Branch of the International Arthurian Society and under the terms of the Barron Bequest, offers a number of annual awards for postgraduate research in any field of Arthurian Studies.
The awards are open to graduates of any university in the British Isles, including those of the Republic of Ireland. They may be held at any university in the British Isles, including those of the Republic of Ireland, except Owens College, University of Manchester.
The awards, currently of £1250, are intended as a contribution to postgraduate fees. Preference will be given in the making of awards to support for full research degrees. Students who are awarded a grant for the coming year may apply for grants in future years on a basius of parity with those applying for the first time.
There is no standard application form. Instead, a leaflet is available giving details of information to be supplied by applicants in typed or word-processed form. The leaflet is available on the website of the British Branch of the International Arthurian Society.
The closing date for receipt of applications for the following academic year is 30 April.

Institute for Advanced Teaching and Learning (works with all disciplines at Warwick)
