Warwick Business School: IKON Research Scholarships

The IKON (Innovation, Knowledge & Organizational Networks) Research Centre invites applications for doctoral research scholarships to run for 3 years (subject to satisfactory progress) starting in October 2011. These new scholarships provide £10000pa which may be used towards Warwick University PhD fees (currently £3390 at UK/EU level) and/or living expenses. Department of Politics and International Studies (PAIS): MA Scholarships

PAIS is delighted to confirm that nine awards of 50% of tuition fees each are available for students commencing MA/Diploma study in 2012-13. The award will automatically be deducted from the winners' tuition fees.

School of Law: Taught Master's Scholarships for Applicants from Africa and Latin America

The School of Law is offering 2 scholarships this year to applicants from Africa and Latin America which will cover 50% of the tuition fees (approximately £5,000 depending on the total fee). These scholarships are available for the LLM International Economic Law, LLM International Corporate Governance and Financial Regulation, and LLM International Development Law and Human Rights. School of Law: ESRC Collaborative Studentship

Investigating Cuts and Changes to Legal Advice Services – Centre, for Human Rights in Practice

This ESRC-Funded Collaborative PhD will examine the impact of the imminent cuts to legal advice services, particularly on the most vulnerable and disadvantaged. It will also examine the different models that are being developed to deal with these cuts by particular legal advice providers.

The project is a collaboration between the Centre for Human Rights in Practice in the School of Law at the University of Warwick, the Law Centres Federation and Coventry Law Centre. It will involve working closely with these institutions. The academic supervisor will be Dr. James Harrison. The successful candidate will be expected to start in October 2012.

This studentship is available to Home and EU students, according to fee status, that meet Research Council eligibility requirements based on residency. It will pay the full fees for the successful candidate along with a tax free maintenance allowance in line with the UK Research Council standard stipend (£13,925 in 2011/12).

There will also be opportunities to do work within the Centre for Human Rights in Practice and the School of Law, depending on qualifications and experience.

The University of Warwick has been awarded prestigious Doctoral Training Centre status by the ESRC. The DTC is run by the University's Graduate School and the successful applicants will acquire their postgraduate training from the provision of the DTC.

School of Law: PhD Studentships

Warwick Law School invites applications for two Postgraduate Research Scholarships to cover three years of doctoral research at the University of Warwick. The scholarship will provide full fees at the University’s Home/EU fee level along with a maintenance stipend in line with the UK Research Council standard stipend (£13,925 in 2011/12). Applications are invited from candidates who may have an interest in any area of law provided the Law School has appropriate supervisory capacity in that field. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct seminar teaching and associated tasks on the Law School’s undergraduate programme.

ESRC Collaborative PHD Studentship:

Project Title: Health care system design and the integration of information and medical technology in rural South Africa: a critical analysis

Collaborative partner: GE Healthcare and the School of Public Health at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa

The Social Science and Systems in Health research unit of the Division of Health Sciences, Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick will host a collaborative studentship with GE Healthcare and the School of Public Health at the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa.
The project for this studentship is a critical analysis of the potential for innovation in health system design, implementation and normalisation in rural South Africa, including appropriate use of information and medical technology. Situated within the field of Health Policy and Systems Research, with a focus on low and middle income countries, the project will draw on multiple theories and perspectives in relation to health care systems and a range of methodologies including interviews, documentary analysis and secondary analysis of health related data.

Field work for the project will be undertaken throughout the second year of study at the Agincourt Health and Demographic Surveillance Site. At this Site an annual census has been undertaken for nearly twenty years with around 90,000 people in the Bushbuckridge rural sub-district in the North East of South Africa. See: http://www.wits.ac.za/acadennic/healthipublichealth/agincourt/10398/1inc.html. The research unit that manages the site is part of the School of Public Health, University of Witwatersrand. The research will consider the Agincourt Site as a case study with synthesis of theory, policy and data analysis.
The studentship will provide one return air fare for travel from UK to South Africa plus local travel expenses for fieldwork. The student will be expected to reside solely in close proximity to the Agincourt Site for the duration of the second year of study. The student will be given assistance in identifying appropriate accommodation.

Funding Details: This studentship will provide full fees and an annual tax-free maintenance grant to the student of approximately £13,590 for up to three years.

Application Details:
Students for this award should have attained an Honours degree, class 2.1 or above, in a related discipline, and have passed, or expect to have passed by Autumn 2012, a Masters qualification from an ESRC recognised research training course or a Masters degree which includes a substantial research element at 60% or above, or equivalent research experience in a work setting. Previous experience of health systems research, as well as experience of living and/or working in a low or middle income setting will be an advantage. Drivers licence essential.
