    Taught Masters Skills Programme

The Masters Skills Programme provides you with opportunities to develop your academic, personal and professional skills, as a taught postgraduate student. This is offered through a variety of workshops, events and online tutorials. Attendance at some of the workshops will give you the opportunity to gain a University of Warwick certificate: the Warwick Skills Portfolio Award (link to WSPA http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/scs/current/succeed/recognition/wspa ). This can be achieved by compiling a personalised Skills Portfolio which will provide evidence of your skills development. Some of the services available specifically to taught postgraduate students are individual academic skills advice and tailored research and professional skills workshops.

    Postgraduate Research Students

For the latest information on the University of Warwick and the facilities available to support you in your studies please see the Graduate School website at go.warwick.ac.uk/graduateschool

During your first weeks you might also like to familiarise yourself with the dedicated space for researchers found on the third floor of the main library: the Wolfson Research Exchange. More information on this space can be found on the website go.warwick.ac.uk/researchexchange

How to be an Effective Researcher

The Research Student Skills Programme (RSSP) invites you to attend an introductory programme designed especially for researchers here at the University of Warwick. The programme will enhance your effectiveness as a postgraduate researcher by providing you with an opportunity to build your understanding, skills and confidence in: communication, planning and time management, problem solving, leadership and assertiveness. The programme will help you to a greater self-awareness of the support services which are available to you as a researcher at Warwick. The RSSP will be running How to be an Effective Researcher throughout the year, so, whatever your start date or mode of study there is an introductory programme for you. For more details visit go.warwick.ac.uk/pgskills/start/effective

    Research Student Skills Programme

Research students should also use their first weeks at the University to explore the opportunities made available through the Research Students Skills Programme. The Programme is open to PhD, MPhil, Masters by Research, EngD and those pursuing the Professional Doctorate. It consists of a variety of workshops, events and support. For information about the programme visit go.warwick.ac.uk/ pgskills

Some of the services available to research students include:

    • Academic coaching (see go.warwick.ac.uk/ pgskills/succeed/coaching), weekly drop in sessions for any postgraduate researcher to discuss issues and seek guidance and training in any area relating to academic study, from time management to academic writing.

    • ePortfolios, an online record of your academic life (see go.warwick.ac.uk/eportfolios), a collection of web pages, representing and showcasing your research, ideas, experience, resources and academic interest. With an audience of fellow researchers within your department, the Warwick community, potential employers and the wider academic world, an ePortfolio provides structure and presentation surpassing what you can achieve with a blog.
