What are Warwick Accommodation's opening hours?
Warwick Accommodation's main office is open 9am until 5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am until 4pm on Fridays.
Rootes reception is open 8am until 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am until 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays during term time. Further information can be found at: Opening hours

How many rooms are there on campus?
For the 2011/2012 academic hall there will are 6283 rooms. For 2012/2013 there will be 6458 rooms. Information on the different halls can be found at: Campus residences
What facilities are there within the halls?
All halls have study bedrooms and shared kitchen facilities. Some of the halls are set up as corridors while others are flats. Some halls have common rooms and / or laundrettes within them. We have a mixture of halls some with shared bathroom facilities and some with en suite rooms. Further information on what facilities are available in each hall can be found at: Facilities
Do you have en suite rooms available?
We do have halls with en suite rooms, however due to demand for these rooms we cannot guarantee that every student who applies for an en suite room will be allocated to one.
Is there any self-catered accommodation on the campus?
All our halls of residence are self-catering. There is a small supermarket located on the campus and the Cannon Park Shopping Centre is only a short walk away. There are also many places to go out for food
on the campus, and the University operates the "eating at Warwick
" pre-payment card to assist with budgeting. All halls of residence have kitchens fitted with cookers, freezers, fridges, microwaves, kettles, toasters and cupboards.
Are the rooms single or shared?
All the rooms on campus apart from 24 rooms in Benefactors and 14 rooms in Rootes are single rooms. In years of high demand, some students may be asked to share a room temporarily in other halls at the start of the academic year.
Do you have single sex areas on campus?
Within some of our halls we have a limited amount of single sex flats or corridors, however most of our accommodation is mixed sex and although we try to meet requests for single sex accommodation it is not always possible for us to do so. You can show a preference for a single sex area when you apply.
How far from the academic departments are the halls of residence located?
The halls of residence are located in a ring around central campus. Most departments are within around 10 minutes walk of the halls of residence. Please see the following map for more information on the location of departments and halls: Map
Do you allocate different subjects to certain halls?
We have a mixture of different courses within all halls as the halls are located close to all departments.
Do you have accommodation available for families?
We have a limited amount of accommodation available for students with children. Please go to the following link for further information: Staff and Family Housing
How much does it cost to live on campus and what is included in the rent?
The rents vary depending upon the hall of residence. More information on the rents can be found at: Campus rents
Heating, gas, electricity, water, insurance, basic cleaning and a high speed internet connection are included in the rent. The rents are usually set in the spring before the academic year begins and will be posted onto our website as soon as they are available.
We do not take any deposits for campus accommodation (although new postgraduates are required to pay a reservation fee when they apply).
Rent is split into termly amounts and needs to be paid at the beginning of each term. Further information on payments can be found at: Student Finance
What is the difference between a 30, 37, 39 and 50 week letting period?
A 30-week let covers term time only, and requires you to vacate your room during the Christmas and Easter Vacation. You will not be able to extend the 30-week let. However you will be able to apply for vacation accommodation on campus prior to the start of each vacation period.
A 37-week let will be available in Whitefields. This covers term time and the Easter Vacation and two weeks of the Christmas Vacation. Vacation Accommodation will be available for this 2 week period elsewhere on campus if required.
A 39-week let covers term time and the Christmas and Easter vacation.
A 50-week let covers postgraduates for the full period of their academic year (October - mid September).
Am I eligible to apply for campus halls of residence?

Do you have rooms suitable for disabled students?

How do I book Vacation Accommodation?
Vacation Accommodation is available for the Christmas and Easter Vacations as well as the first eleven weeks of the Summer Vacation. It is on campus usually in one of the halls with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. Students can book it from around week 8 of each term at the following link: Vacation Accommodation
Can I have a look around the campus halls?
As our halls of residence are constantly in use, either with students living in them, conferences or maintenance work, it is not possible for you to view the inside of halls apart from on Open Days. Information on when Open Days are can be found at: Open Days
Visitors are able to look around campus to get an idea of the layout and where halls are located at anytime.

How many rooms are there off-campus?
Warwick Accommodation manages Over 1800 rooms in approximately 450 properties off-campus. Although we do not own the properties students have a contract with us and we deal with contacts, rent payments, safety certificates, inspecting the houses and any maintenance issues that may arise.
Where are the properties located?
The properties that we manage are located in south Coventry, Kenilworth and Leamington Spa, which all have regular bus services running to them from the University of Warwick campus. Properties are located within a short walk from the number 12 Travel West Midlands bus route. How big are the houses?
Most houses are for between 3 and 5 students however we do have a limited amount of housing suitable for couples and larger houses available.
What facilities are there within the houses?

Do you have en suite rooms available?
There are a limited number of properties with en suite rooms, for example Union Court, however we may not be able to offer an en suite room to all students who apply for one.
Are the rooms single or shared?
All the rooms off-campus are single rooms unless they state that they are suitable for couples.
Do you have single sex areas houses?
We do have some single sex houses, however most of our accommodation is mixed sex and although we try to meet requests for single sex accommodation it is not always possible for us to do so. You can show a preference for a single sex area when you apply.
How much does it cost to live off-campus and what is included in the rent?
The rents vary depending upon property and the room within it.
Water rates (except 46 and 48 week contracts) and insurance are included in the rent, however apart from in some of our large properties gas and electricity are not included.
We do not take any deposits for off-accommodation, however you may be charged for damage to the property (new postgraduates are required to pay a reservation fee when they apply).

What is the difference between 42, 46, 48 and 50 week letting periods?

A 46-week let covers term time and the Christmas and Easter vacation and usually runs from the September until July. For the 2011/2012 academic year 46-week lets will run continuously from 10th September 2011 until 28th July 2012.
A 48-week let covers term time and the Christmas and Easter vacation and usually runs from the September until August. For the 2011/2012 academic year 48-week lets will run continuously from 3rd September 2011 until 4th August 2012.
A 50-week let covers postgraduates for the full period of their academic year (1st October 2011 - 15th September 2012).
What are the benefits of getting off-campus accommodation through Warwick Accommodation?
Warwick Accommodation inspects all the properties that they manage to ensure that they meet local authority accreditation standards. This means that we ensure that they have all the relevant health and safety certificates. We ensure that all properties are well maintained and furnished. All properties are assigned a Property Manager who assists the students in the property with any issues that arise during their stay, both welfare and from a maintenance perspective.
Warwick Accommodation does not charge any administration fees when students sign up for a property and there is no retainer for the periods that the house is vacant. You would only be charged for the period of your contract.
How do I book Vacation Accommodation?

Am I guaranteed a room on campus?

When do I need to apply by?
The application deadline is the 31st July, although we will still accept applications after this date.
I am holding a conditional / insurance offer for the University can I apply for accommodation?
Once you have accepted a course offer from the University of Warwick you need to apply for accommodation. Please be aware you will need either a UCAS number or Warwick Id number before you can apply.
When will we receive our accommodation offer?
Off-campus offers for postgraduate students and full year exchange students will start to be made from around June onwards into the Summer. Campus offers for postgraduate students will start to be made from mid-late August. First year undergraduate offers will be sent out in September. All offers will be sent out by email so please make sure that you check your email account regularly and that you inform Warwick Accommodation if your email address changes.
When will I find out my room number?
Campus room numbers are not given out until students arrive to move into their accommodation.
I am a new postgraduate student but did my undergraduate degree at Warwick, will this affect my application?
As long as you have not previously been a postgraduate student at the University of Warwick you will be classed as a new postgraduate and it will not affect your application.
I have a disability/medical condition which affects the type of accommodation I need, can I get a room on campus?
If you have a disability, you would need to discuss your accommodation requirements with the University's Disability Services team

Do I need to pay a £250 reservation fee and if so, how can I pay it?
The categories of students who are required to pay a reservation fee with their accommodation application are stated in the Principles of Allocation
page. If you are required to submit a £250 accommodation reservation fee with your accommodation application, it can be paid to the University via any of the methods listed at: http://www.warwick.ac.uk/go/applywa/howtopayresfee
If I decide not to come to come to the University of Warwick and have paid a reservation fee, will I get a refund?
If you wish to cancel your accommodation application and request a refund of your reservation fee, it is important that you let us know as soon as possible so that any accommodation that we have reserved for you can be made available to another student. We are normally only able to refund your reservation fee provided you request this by 1st September - further information on cancelling your accommodation application and requesting a refund of your fee is available at: http://www.warwick.ac.uk/go/applywa/cancelappinfo
Can I apply to live with my friend?
Unfortunately it is not always possible to allocate students with their friends due to the number of applications that we receive. If you would like to be considered to live with your friend you need to put their full name and id number in the brief description section on your application form, and also ask your friend to include your name full name and ID number in the brief description of their application form.
I have made a mistake on my application form, how do I change the details?
If you have already submitted the form online you will be unable to change the details. Please do not try and re-submit another form, the system will only allow one form per student identification number. Please email your corrections to Warwick Accommodation (accommodation@warwick.ac.uk) and we will then be able to make the corrections to your form; you will be sent a confirmation email once your form has been amended.
I am a postgraduate and my friend is an undergraduate, can we live together?
Postgraduates and undergraduates are allocated to different blocks on campus so you would not be able to live together on campus. It may be possible for you to live together in a university managed house off-campus if you contact us with the request.

What are my accommodation options?
Returning undergraduates not in their final year are expected to live off-campus unless they have a supported medical reason or disability that requires them to live on campus. Information on off-campus accommodation managed by Warwick Accommodation can be found at: Off-campus accommodation
When do I need to apply for off-campus accommodation for the following academic year?
Current Warwick students will be able to form groups, view and reserve our off-campus properties via our website from January.
What happens if I do not have a friendship group to reserve an off-campus property with?
Warwick Accommodation has a number of rooms in some of our larger properties which can be reserved by individuals. If you do not wish to take one of these rooms, you will be able to complete an individual online application form from January, and Warwick Accommodation will then match you with other students and provide additional assistance in allocating your group to a property.
I have a disability/medical condition which affects the type of accommodation I need, can I get a room on campus?
If you have a disability, you would need to discuss your accommodation requirements with the University's Disability Services team

Can I apply for accommodation part-way through the year if my situation changes?
Warwick Accommodation has off-campus properties available until at least the end of term 3, so you will have plenty of time to decide what is best for you.
I am living in an off-campus house with Warwick Accommodation, can I end my contract early?
Your off-campus contract runs for a fixed term which can normally only be brought to an end under the conditions stated in Section 4 of your off-campus contract.
Does Warwick Accommodation give advice on private accommodation?
Unfortunately we do not, however the Students' Union Student Advice Centre
are able to provide impartial advice on private sector accommodation.
What happens if Warwick Accommodation runs out of housing?
Warwick Accommodation normally has vacant properties until August but in years of high demand, if possible we will try to take on additional properties and/or provide information about accommodation options in the private sector for students who have not arranged their accommodation by then.
Students entering the final year of an undergraduate degree (this does not include students on the MBChB Medical School degree course)
Am I eligible to apply for campus accommodation?
If you are registered to finish an undergraduate degree in the following academic year you will be elligible to apply for campus accommodation for your final year.
Am I guaranteed campus accommodation in my final year?

What are the chances of getting a room through the ballot?
The number of students who are accepted through the ballot varies each year depending upon the number of students in the guaranteed groups who apply. Usually between one third and one half of the ballot applicants are successful in getting a room on campus.
When are application forms for final year campus accommodation available?
Application forms will be available in November of the preceding academic year. Please check the website in October for further information and details of the application deadline.
When will students find out if they have been successful in getting a room on campus?
To give students the chance to arrange off-campus housing if they are not allocated to campus, students will find out before the end of term 1 of the preceding year whether or not they have been successful in getting a room on campus.
Can I apply in a group?
Students can either apply as individuals or as part of a group for final year accommodation.
I am guaranteed a room on campus, however my friend is not and I want to apply as a group with them. Will this affect my guarantee?
If a group consists of guaranteed and non-guaranteed members the non-guaranteed members of the group will go into the ballot together. The guaranteed members will keep their guarantee regardless of whether or not the other members of the group are successful in getting a place.
I missed the deadline for the final year application forms, can I still apply?
If students miss the deadline they will have to wait to see if a waiting list opens. The waiting list usually opens in January. The number of students accepted from the waiting list varies each year. As it is a waiting list there is no deadline by when you will receive the result of your application. The number of applicants taken from the waiting list varies each academic year depending upon how many of the successful applicants from the original application process reject their offers.
What happens if I am not offered campus accommodation or I would prefer not to live on campus?
If you are not offered a room on campus for your final year or would prefer to live off-campus you can reserve, view and sign for Warwick Accommodation managed off-campus houses from January. You will be able book properties as individuals or groups.
Can I remain in my Warwick Accommodation managed off-campus house for my final year?
If you are living in a Warwick Accommodation property, as long as we will have the property for the following year, you will be asked if you want to stay in the house for the following academic year.
Arrival information
Campus
When can I move into my accommodation?
Campus contracts for the full year start on the Saturday before the first day of term. The University's term dates can be found at: Term dates
Unless undergraduate students are registered on the International Orientation Programme they cannot move in before the start date of their contract. Postgraduates allocated to campus halls will be able to move in up to one week before the start of term 1 only. All early arrivals will be charged for any nights not covered by their accommodation contracts.
What happens on arrivals weekend?
When you are allocated to your accommodation you will be emailed details on how to accept and authorise your accommodation contract online. Once your online contract has been authorised, you will then be able to view and print out the specific arrival arrangements for your hall. In general, undergraduate arrivals are split over two days depending on your surname. For the 2011/2012 academic year surnames from A - L can arrive on Saturday 1 October 2011 and M - Z on Sunday 2 October 2011. You can arrive between 9.30am and 4:30pm. This is to ease traffic congestion on campus over arrivals weekend.
Where do I collect my keys?
If you are arriving between 9.30am and 4:30pm on arrivals weekends, your campus room keys can be collected from the designated points within your hall of residence as detailed in the online arrival instructions which students can view once they have authorised their online accommodation contracts.
If you arrive after 4:30pm but before 11pm, your keys can be collected from Rootes Reception (ground floor reception desk in building number 49 on the campus map
).
Rootes Reception will close at 11pm on Saturday 1 October 2011 and Sunday 2 October 2011, and so if you are expecting to arrive after this time, please email accommodation@warwick.ac.uk well before 1 October so that alternative arrangements can be made for you to collect your from Security.
If you are moving to your campus room after the arrivals weekend, your keys can be collected from Rootes Reception during the standard opening hours of 8am-8pm. Please note that if you are intending to arrive later than Wednesday 5th October, you should email accommodation@warwick.ac.uk so that your room will continue to be held for you. What do I need to bring with me?
The facilities summary and inventory (which forms part of your contract) state what is provided in your accommodation. In campus accommodation bedding is provided. Basic kitchen equipment such as toasters and kettles are provided, however you need to bring cooking pots, crockery and cutlery with you.
Off-campus
When can I move into my house?
42 and 46 week contracts for the 2011/2012 academic year will begin on the 10th September 2011, 48 week contracts on the 3rd September 2011 and the 50 contracts will start 1st October 2011.
Where do I collect my off-campus keys?

What do I need to bring with me?
Bedding is not provided in off-campus houses, so you will need to bring some with you or buy some in the local area. You will need to bring kitchen equipment such as crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils. Information on what is provided in our off-campus houses can be found at: Off-campus facilities
Living on campus
Useful information about living in a hall of residence can be found in the Residential handbooks: Residential Handbook. You will also be given a paper copy of the handbook when you move into your accommodation which will also contain information specific to your hall of residence.
Where do I report faults in my room?
If there is a problem with your room when you move, in you can report it on the inventory which forms part of your accommodation contract. Any other faults should be reported online at: http://www.warwick.ac.uk/go/faultswa apart from power failures.
How do I transfer to a different room?
If you would like to transfer to a different room within your current hall of residence you need to discuss the situation with your residential staff. If they support your move they will email Warwick Accommodation to authorise the move taking place. For transfers between halls of residence you will need to complete an online transfer request form. The form will be on our website from Monday of week 3 of term 1 of each academic year. Room transfers can only take place if a suitable room becomes available for a student to move to. There is a £35 transfer fee for all room transfers and no transfers (apart from on medical grounds) will take place before Monday of week 3 term 1.
Can I swap rooms with my friend?
If you are able to find another student to swap rooms with you need to come into Warwick Accommodation together so that we can check that you are eligible to live in each other’s rooms. If the transfer is agreed you will both be charged the £35 transfer fee and both students will need to authorise new contracts with Warwick Accommodation before moving rooms. No room swaps will be permitted before Monday of week 3 term 1.
I have a medical condition that requires me to swap accommodation what should I do?

I am a postgraduate student, can I live with undergraduate students on campus?
Undergraduates and postgraduates are allocated to different blocks on campus so if you are a postgraduate you cannot live in an undergraduate block and if you are an undergraduate you cannot live in a postgraduate block.
How do I contact the residential staff in my area?
In most halls of residence there will be member of residential staff living in your block. There should be signs to direct you to their flat. Their contact details can also be found in the Residential Handbook that you will receive when you move into the block.
How do I become a member of residential staff?

What facilities are there in my accommodation?

How do I connect to the internet from my bedroom?
All the internet connections in campus residences are wired so you need to bring an Ethernet cable with you to connect to the internet. Alternatively you will be able to buy one on campus. Where do I collect my mail?
Mail is delivered to the halls of residence. If you get sent a parcel (unless you live in Westwood) you will get a card telling you to collect it from the Rootes Post Room which is situated behind the Rootes Building next to the launderette. Westwood students' parcels can be collected from the Westwood postroom.
Do I need a television licence for a television in my bedroom?
By law you are required to buy a television licence by law for any room in halls with a television. Failure to do so may result in you paying a substantial fine. More information can be found at: http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/
Please be aware that individual study bedrooms do not have an aerial point in them, however aerial points are available in common rooms and some kitchens.
Is there any car parking available on campus for students?
Car parking on campus is very limited so if you are living on campus you are not expected to bring a car with you. Further information on car parking can be found at: http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/services/campus-support/carparks
How do I pay my rent?

What are the laundry facilities on campus?
The following halls have laundrette facilities within the hall: Arthur Vick, Claycroft, Heronbank, Lakeside and Westwood. For the other halls there will be a laundrette located within a few minutes walk of the hall. All of the laundrettes contain washing machines and tumble driers. They require you to have the correct change to operate them. You will need to supply your own washing powder / fabric softeners.
What facilities are there on campus if I don't want to cook for myself?
There are many different options on campus if you do not want to cook for yourself. Information about the facilities available can be found at: Food and Drink

I want to move out early can I be released from my accommodation contract?
Students will be held liable for their accommodation for the duration of their contract unless they are eligible to be released under section 4 of their contract. This usually means a replacement student needs to be found to go into their room. When you move into your house you need to contact your utility company to give them the meter readings for your property so that they know what they should be charging you for. Failure to do this may lead to you being charged for more than you have used! Payments should be made directly to the companies who supply your property. Can I get the internet and a telephone line in my off-campus house?
Warwick Accommodation does not usually arrange the telephone and internet connections in off-campus properties, however it is possible for the tenants to arrange this themselves. Further information can be found in the off-campus handbook: Telephone / Internet
I want to move out early can I be released from my accommodation contract?
Students will be held liable for their accommodation for the duration of their contract unless they are eligible to be released under section 4 of their contract. This usually means a replacement student needs to be found to go into their room. Welfare
Who should I contact if I am having welfare issues?
There are a number of different Student Support Services on campus. For problems relating to accommodation you may want to discuss them with Warwick Accommodation or alternatively you may find the following services useful:
• Student Support Services - this group includes the Director of Student Support, the Senior Tutor, Disability Services, Counselling, the Mental Health team and Personal Tutors. More information on the services that the offer can be found here: Student Support Services
• The Student Union Advice Team - can provide advice on different things such as: accommodation including private housing contracts, immigration, the law, employment, health, academic matters and much more. Further information can be found at: Student Advice Centre
• The Residential Life Team - If you are living in the campus halls of residence you will have residential staff members, wardens, deputy wardens, subwardens and resident tutors who live within the accommodation. They are there to provide welfare support to students within the halls as well as ensuring that the campus rules and regulations are followed. • Security - there is a University Security Team which operates 24 hours a day. They are trained First Aiders and can deal with a number of Safety and Security issues. Further information can be found at: Security
• Personal Tutor - all students should have a personal tutor within their academic department who they can contact.
Who should I contact if I am having problems paying my Warwick Accommodation rent?
The Student Finance Team collect the rent payments for Warwick Accommodation so you need to contact them if there are issues regarding rent payments. Information on Student Finance and making payments can be found at: Student Finance

Who should I contact if I am having issues in privately rented accommodation?

Security
Students are strongly advised to keep your room locked and windows closed at all times when your room is unoccupied. Unfortunately theft is not unknown and you should be careful, particularly during the first few days of term, not to leave your valuables lying around.
Bicycles should be locked up using a D lock.
