Consumer Protection Law

All staff have a responsibility to comply with consumer protection law as it applies to universities. Consumer protection legislation has applied to the HE sector for some time, however guidance from the Competition and Markets Authority in March 2015 means that there is increased appreciation and awareness of how consumer protection law applies to university students. The CMA is monitoring universities’ progress towards compliance with legislative provision. All staff should understand the provisions of the legislation and specifically the impact upon their area of work to ensure that appropriate account is taken. All colleagues are advised to take the Moodle course on consumer protection law, and a bank of frequently asked questions is under development.
